A couple weeks ago we visited Philadelphia and took a trip to visit the Orchid Extravaganza display at Longwood Gardens. It was so beautiful, we went two days in a row. We were thoroughly impressed with the conservatory and property. They had such an impressive collection.
Longwood Gardens has close to 6,000 orchids cared in 5 greenhouses. They bring in an extra 2,000 orchids for the show. Some of the orchids go on sale at the end of February/early March.
The conservatory alone is FOUR acres! These are just a couple of orchids from the show, in their orchid display room. They have them growing in the greenhouses and brought out when blooming. The smell is simply amazing! If you’re the area, it is worth the trip. And, while you’re at it, get some Philly Cheesesteaks for the road and enjoy them while you picnic on their property.
The Longwood Gardens Orchid Extravaganza runs through March 24th.
