Tst. Melinda Marie ‘Blue Fairy’ was added to our orchid collection last spring. It is a member of the zygopetalum family. This variety has blue-purple hue blooms that are about 2 inches in size and an average plant height of 10-12″. Its blooms life expectancy is at least one month.
Looking back at last year’s photos, it was rewarding to see the bloom process. This shot was taken on May 5:
Care of Zygopetalum Orchids
Zygopetalum orchids like medium indirect light. Roots like to be kept moist, but not soggy. They are susceptible to root rot and bacterial diseases. Similar to most of our orchids, we fertilize weakly weekly.
